Presented By Atomic Speedway

Adena’s Lady Warriors took over sole possession of the SVC girls basketball first place standings with a 53-42 win at Paint Valley Tuesday night.

The win places Adena at (7-1) in the SVC while Paint Valley slips to (6-2), in a virtual tie with (7-2) Unioto, who saw their game with Westfall postponed. Paint Valley was ranked #11 in the latest Division 4 Associated Press Poll coming into the game.

Adena led after the first quarter 14-11 and 29-22 at halftime. The Lady Bearcats outscored Adena 15-7 in the third quarter to grab only their second lead of the game, 37-36 after three periods.

The fourth quarter saw Adena swing the tide back in their direction by picking up their pressure defense along with Paint Valley missing free throw and inside scoring opportunities as the Lady Warriors went on a 17-5 run for the 53-42 victory. The victory is a sweep for Adena over Paint Valley in girls basketball this season, the only two SVC losses for the Lady Bearcats.

Adena’s Emma Garrison led all scorers with 20 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, Jadyn Smith and Makaela Lovely added 10 and 9 points respectively. Cheyanne Ater scored 8 points, Sydney Foglesong added 4 points and Sydney Ater with 2.

Olivia Smith led Paint Valley with 14 points and 9 boards, Averi McFadden added 12 points (8 in first quarter), and Abbi Stanforth scored 8, Hanna Uhrig 5 and Kendall Dye with 3.

Adena travels to Unioto on Thursday, looking to avenge their lone SVC loss of the season, when the Lady Shermans won at Adena prior to the Christmas break.

Both Adena and Paint Valley have games to make up, due to earlier postponed contests.

The Paint Valley Bearcats sent shockwaves through the SVC Volleyball world Thursday with a straight-set sweep of conference leader and #6 state ranked Zane Trace (25-22, 26-24, 25-19).

Paint Valley entered the match with a (2-6) SVC record, while the Pioneers sat 1/2 match ahead of Adena at (8-1). But Thursday, the Bearcats were right in the thick of the contest from the opening serve, and at times, led by as many as several points.

Each time, Zane Trace battled back, only to see PV come up with a key defensive play or big offensive attack. Paint Valley’s service game was a key to keeping the Pioneers on their heals and getting them out of system for their offensive attack. The Bearcats had 11 aces in the match, with Abbi Stanforth notching 8 of them.

Paint Valley Coach Kristen Posey said this about her team’s effort- “This was a complete team effort that shows all the work this group has put in as a team. I am so proud of their growth throughout the season. “
