Local dignitaries appeared for the monument unveiling at Veterans Memorial Park.

Approximately 200 people were in attendance, including 99-year-old World War II Navy Veteran Chester Collins and 90-year-old Korean War Army Vet Richard Buchanan.
Collins told Litter Media’s Mike Smith the ship he served on traveled across the Atlantic 16 times and served in the D-Day Invasion at Normandy Beach. Following the war in Europe, his ship then headed through the Panama Canal and headed to the war in the Pacific, where they participated in the landings off Okinawa.
Buchanan served as an Army medic and was present at the famous Battle of Pork Chop Hill.
