Boaters to See Shelter/Learning Center At Lake White State Park

Presented By Hometown-Motors, Inc.

(Waverly) – People in and around Pike County will soon have a new place to learn how to stay safe on the water. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is building a new Boater Education Center at Lake White State Park.

“I’ve loved seeing more Ohioans on our lakes and rivers over the past few years, rediscovering an appreciation of the water,” ODNR Director Mary Mertz said.  “While boating can offer quality family time, new boaters mean more people need to learn the ins and outs of operating these vessels.  We are excited to be able to provide that with this new education center.”

The new building will include a 2,020 square-foot park shelter with storage rooms, restrooms, patios, and a pavilion area. The building will host education courses for new boaters and will be available for community use.  Classes will include topics such as operating safely, legal requirements, water sports, and what to do in a boating emergency.  Anyone operating a boat in Ohio powered by more than 10 horsepower must provide proof of boater education.  ODNR offers study guides to help people meet those requirements.

The new center is expected to be complete in the spring of 2022.  Total cost is estimated at $852,400.

Paint Creek & Lake White Projects Approved

Presented By Classic Brands

(Columbus) —State Senator Bob Peterson (R-Washington CH) has announced controlling board approval of $1 million for the construction of a new maintenance shop and boat storage facility at Paint Creek State Park in Highland County.

This project will construct a new maintenance shop and office space, consisting of five pull-through bays with heated shop space, an office, kitchenette and open meeting space. In addition, the project will include a new boat storage building for the Law Enforcement staff. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Parks and Watercraft has statewide construction and dredge operations crews that provide large scale maintenance and dredging services for all the state parks.

In addition, controlling board also approved $251,000 for the construction of a new Boater Education Center at the Lake White State Park in Pike County.  This project replaces a previous facility that had been removed and will include the construction of a new 2,020 square foot park shelter with storage rooms, restrooms, patios, and a pavilion area. The work is expected to be completed by June 23, 2022.

“Well maintained parks contribute to an enhanced quality of life for area residents and help spur our local tourism industry,” said Peterson. “Ohio’s vibrant park system is one of the finest in the nation, thanks to important investments like these.”

Whaley Makes Southern Ohio Campaign Stops

Presented By Classic Brands

(Dayton) — Nan Whaley continues her tour across southern Ohio Monday (9/27/21), holding meet and greets and taking part in community events as part of her 88 County Ohio Deserves Better Tour. Nan will be visiting the following counties: Harrison, Belmont, Monroe, Athens, Meigs, Gallia, Lawrence, Scioto, Pike, Adams, Brown.

Earlier this year, Nan announced her intention to visit all of Ohio’s 88 counties in order to listen to voters’ concerns and discuss how, together, we can build a brighter future for our state. For too long, Ohioans have felt left behind — whether in cities big or small. Nan will travel the state to hear directly from them and actually bring the voices of real Ohioans to the Governor’s Office.
