Unioto & Circleville Fall in Girls D-2 District Finals

Unioto’s (21-4) Lady Shermans ran into a juggernaut in (24-1) #2 state ranked Fairland Wednesday in a 64-27 Division 2 District Championship loss for the upper bracket, while Circleville’s Lady Tigers experienced their lone defeat of the season in a 50-30 setback to (25-0) Sheridan in the lower bracket title games.

FAIRLAND 64, UNIOTO 27
Unioto held a brief 5-3 lead to start the game, then the Lady Dragons exploded on a 26-4 run for a 29-9 lead with under four minutes remaining in the first half. That lead was 32-13 at halftime, with the Lady Shermans unable to make up the ground they needed to catch up. Fairland led 55-23 after three periods and the continuous clock was activiated at 6:30 remaining in the game when the score reached 59-23. Both teams subbed late in the game as the Lady Dragons cruised to their 64-27 final margin.

Fairland had four players in double figures, led by junior Kamryn Barnitz’ 16 points. 6’0 senior Bree Allen had 14 points and 5 rebounds, with both Bailey Russell and Kylee Bruce each scored 13 points.

Unioto’s Milee Smith was their scoring leader with 12 points and Amelia Uhrig added 6 points and 6 rebounds.

The Lady Dragons shot 24/48- including 12/27 from the arc for a total of 50% from the field, and added 4/9 from the foul line. Unioto was 11/35- including 2/13 from the arc for a total of 31%. They were only 3/4 from the foul line. Unioto was hurt by 22 turnovers with 16 in the first half. Fairland committed only 6 miscues.

Fairland advances to the Zanesville Regional Semi March 5th.

SHERIDAN 50, CIRCLEVILLE 30
Circleville’s (24-1) dream season came to a close with their loss to (25-0) Sheridan. The Lady Tigers held an early 5-4 advantage before the Lady Generals went on a 13-2 run for a 17-7 lead early in the second quarter. That lead was 27-16 at halftime, then exploded to 45-21 after three periods.

Sheridan’s all-time leading scorer, 5’11 senior Jamisyn Stinson led the way with 20 points, and 6’0 senior Nora Saffell added 12 points. Circleville sophomore Maddie Blakeman was the Lady Tigers’ top scorer with 15 points abd Gabby McConnell added 6 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Sheridan shot 17/36 from the field- including 8/20 from the arc for 47%. They were also 8/11 from the charity stripe. Circleville was 12/38- including 2/15 from the arc for 32%. They added 4/5 from the foul line.

Circleville committed 14 turnovers to 10 from Sheridan. The Lady Generals advance to Zanesville Tuesday in the opposite semifinal as Fairland.
