Unioto Cruises Past Piketon To Remain Unbeaten

Unioto’s high powered offense and stingy defense were prominent in their 36-6 win at Piketon Friday, keeping the Shermans unbeaten at (5-0).

The Tanks built a 29-0 lead at halftime and added one more score in the second half, before the Redstreaks got on the scoreboard late in the third quarter.

Unioto got their scoring started at 9:07 of the first quarter when Newton Hoops tossed a TD pass to Maddox Fox for a 7-0 lead. That combination worked again for a 14-0 lead when Hoops found Fox on a 47 yard scoring pass with 5:46 left in that period.

Hoops found his brother Blake Hoops on a 36 yard TD pass at 11:56 of the second quarter for a 21-0 lead. The Shermans made it 29-0 when Matt Griffin ran 95 yards for a score at 7:25 remaining in the second quarter, followed by a successful two-point conversion. That drive had been set up by a fumble recovered by Griffin.

Unioto went into halftime with the 29-0 lead.

The Tanks made it 36-0 at 8:51 left in the third quarter when Corbin Demint ran 10 yards for a TD, creating the continuous clock for the rest of the game.

Piketon scored their only points of the game at 4:00 remaining in the third period when Caleb Osborne scored from 2 yards out. The PAT failed, leaving the eventual final score of 36-6 Unioto.

Unioto rolled up 562 total yards, with 368 rushing. Matt Griffin was the leading rusher with 148 yards on 6 carries. Newton Hoops completed 9/13 passes for 162 yards and 3 TD’s.

Piketon amassed 318 total yards, with Luke Gullion throwing 12/18 for 192 yards. Buddy Wilson ran for 86 yards on 18 carries.

Matt Griffin and Newt Hoops were the “McDonald’s Co-Players of the Game.”

Unioto improves to (2-0/5-0) while Piketon drops to (0-2/2-3).
