After falling behind 19-11 early in the second quarter, state top ranked Wheelersburg rallied to outscore the Fairfield Lions 20-7 in the third and held on for a 49-42 victory in the Girls D-III District Final at Waverly’s Downtown Gym.
Fairfield managed to cut the Pirates’ lead to 44-40 with two minutes remaining on a Peyton Magee three-pointer, but Wheelersburg sealed the win at the free throw line.
Magee led all scorers with 15-points followed by Emma Fouch with 14.
For The Burg, Alaina Keeney tallied-points to pace the Pirates with Lexi Rucker adding 11 while Madison Whittaker and Makenna Walker added 9 each.
Wheelersburg (25-0) now faces Belmont Union in the D-III Regional at Logan HS March 2 at 8pm.
