Zane Trace FFA Ready For Friday’s Annual Pancake & Sausage Breakfast

Article presented by Kingston National Bank

Charley Clyne, Ashleigh Hupp and Kailee Adkins were guests on this #LitterMediaLIVE-Special Edition with Litter Media’s Dan Ramey to talk about Friday’s Sausage Breakfast and they’re time in ZT FFA.

The Juniors and Seniors of the Zane Trace Future Farmers of America are ready for their annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfast, Friday, February 2nd scheduled from 5am-9am.

Kailee Adkins reported Tuesday, FFA Advisor Jennifer Johnston, was picking up the hogs for the sausage to be butchered by the students, ground and processed into sausage and ready to be cooked on Friday morning. “We have to be there (cafeteria) at 2:30 in the morning” said a wincing Adkins who was quick to add “We actually get the day off (from school)”. Adkins also joked the event coincides with “Ground Hog Day” – pun intended.

Charley Clyne says preparation for the event, including how to process a hog, takes several weeks in the classroom. “Mrs. Johnston spends the whole month of January through to the sausage breakfast teaching us what we have gotta do and helping us make sure we know what needs to be done on the day of the breakfast. It would not go as smoothly without Mrs. Johnston.”

Adkins says those who aren’t familiar with farm life get an eye-opening experience. “Some of them are pretty shocked to see how it works and some of them are kinda disgusted – they don’t want to touch the pig, but… it’s all part of life and how things work.” We have servers and then we have people in the kitchen… everyone in the kitchen has to do everything. We work on a rotation schedule.”

While there’s no charge for the breakfast, a requested $5 donation or more is helpful. The students are donating all of the proceeds to various charities, including the Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Ohio FFA Foundation.
