ZT Pays Tribute to “Coach K” with Win Over Westfall

Article Presented By Hometown-Motors, Inc…

Zane Trace High School paid tribute to Hall of Fame Basketball Coach Gary Kellough Tuesday for his 52 years of coaching, as he’s announced this will be his final season on the bench. After a pregame ceremony that featured the appearance of many of his former players, the Pioneers put the icing on the celebration cake with a 52-40 win over the Westfall Mustangs.

Zane Trace shot the lights out, with an 18/30 performance- including 9/15 from the arc for 60%. They added 7/10 at the charity stripe for 70%. Westfall, who lost their season leading scorer Brody Clark due to a leg injury late in the second quarter, shot 17/38 from the field- including 1/9 from the arc for 48%. They added 5/11 from the foul line. The Mustangs won the lop-sided rebound battle 21-11, but it was not a major factor due to the Pioneers red-hot shooting night.

Landon Robinson led ZT with 15 points, Landen Jarrell pitched in 11 points, then 9 points each from Noah Houston and Brock Jarrell. Carter Langley, who was playing in only his second game after returning from a broken hand that kept him out for almost two months, scored 8 points.

Westfall was led by Jeremiah Layton’s 14 points and 7 rebounds, with Henry Barnes adding 10. Brydan Gall scored 8. Brody Clark had 4 points when he went down with a leg injury with 38 seconds remaining in the first half. He did not return to the game. Bryan Craig and Brenden Tuttle each scored 2 points.

The Pioneers improve to (10-3/11-9) and the Mustangs drop to (9-4/14-7). Both teams close out their regular season this weekend, with Zane Trace opening Division 3 tournament play Monday 2/19/24 at home against Lynchburg Clay. Westfall will also host Piketon that night.
