Booster Doses for Pfizer Vaccine The FDA / CDC have approved booster doses for the Pfizer vaccine for specific groups of people. Booster doses for vaccines are used to increase the level of protection that a vaccine provides to people. The following groups have been identified for boosters:
People 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster shot.
People ages 18 to 49 who are at high risk for severe COVID-19 due to certain underlying medical conditions may receive a booster shot based on their individual benefits and risks.
People ages 18-64 who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting may receive a booster shot based on their individual benefits and risks.
This booster vaccine approval is for Pfizer vaccine only and is not approved for Moderna or Johnson and Johnson vaccines. Boosters for other vaccine brands may come in the future, but right now booster doses are for Pfizer vaccine only.
You should not mix vaccine types. If you originally received Moderna, you are not recommended to get a Pfizer booster.
Third doses ARE approved for both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for people who are immunocompromised. This is different from booster doses, but it can be confusing. If you have questions about whether you are considered immunocompromised, please contact your healthcare provider.
Area law enforcement is echoing warnings from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration about counterfeit pills that can kill.
The DEA earlier this week, issued a warning that counterfeit pills containing fentanyl are on the increase. Officials say they are finding that 2 out of 5 counterfeit pain killer pills contain enough fentanyl to kill a person.
Officials remind everyone to only use medication prescribed by a doctor and dispensed by a pharmacy.
After being closed for almost a year ago due to the pandemic, and then deciding to go out of business, a Chillicothe movie theatre is planning to reopen under new ownership this fall.
Danbarry Theatre will keep the same name, although under new ownership.
A person with personal knowledge of the business plan spoke to Litter Media about the decision.
The theatre’s website also announced the plan to reopen this fall, although a date for the reopening was not disclosed.
The recent surge of COVID-19 cases has causes the Chillicothe-Ross Chamber of Commerce to change or pause some of their plans.
In their chamber newsletter, the changes were discussed:
We may have thought – as the spring gave way to summer – that COVID’s ugly grip on Ross County was relenting. But, the advent of the Delta variant shook us back to reality.
September has been a wake-up call for all of us. Our cases are on pace to be at least our second highest month since the COVID era began and may eclipse December 2021 as our worst month yet. Hospitalizations have never been higher.
Add to that the cumulative effect of a challenging hiring environment, and everyone is, well, tired.
We’re feeling it, too. Our staff was hit with the COVID surge this month, which meant we had one person doing the work of all three at a busy time. As a result, we’re re-evaluating all our events for the rest of the year. Ribbon cutting events, which are generally small crowds and can be distanced, continue, and we have a few coming up. We’ll continue evaluating those individually.
We’ve modified the October Business After Business event at Bell Manor. The owners have graciously accommodated our request to institute safe practices to help keep folks healthy. We may limit capacity if the current trends hold. Please register as soon as possible just in case we need to limit.
Unfortunately, with our staffing issues – coupled with challenges for our downtown businesses – we are canceling Puttin’ on the Ritz for a second straight year. We’d love to do the event, but in all honesty, we’re all tired, and the day-to-day work of serving members is essential. Taking a step back on some events helps us stay mentally fresh and focused on our vital work to help our businesses adapt to the current environment. We’re still committed to the Downtown Holiday Open House kickoff, with the tree lighting and welcoming of Santa, on Friday, Nov. 19, since it’s an outdoor event. However, the 2021 Business Expo, scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 17, is an indoor event, and its status is up in the air.
We don’t have a committed sponsor for our December BAB and may end up canceling that event.
We’ll keep in touch with you to let you know what we’re doing. In the meantime, we encourage vaccination, distancing, and staying home if you’re sick. It’s the best way to keep our businesses open and making money.

(Chillicothe) – Avoiding the flu this season takes one simple step, getting an influenza vaccine. Adena Health System offers many flu shot clinics, making it easy for you and your family to get vaccinated.
Adena is offering flu shots by appointment at any of its Family Medicine, Primary Care and Pediatric locations. Flu vaccinations are also available at all Adena Urgent Care locations in Chillicothe, Circleville, Hillsboro, Jackson and Waverly.
Adena is also offering curbside flu shots at a number of its clinics on selected dates. For curbside services, credit/debit cards will be accepted for self-pay and insurance cards taken for others. No scheduling is required.
Individuals 18 years of age and older wishing to receive a free COVID-19 vaccination as well may do so safely during the same primary care or pediatric visit as their flu shot.
Due to the impact of COVID-19 and the Delta variant, it’s more important than ever for people to get their flu shot. Adena experts recommend getting flu shots as soon as possible in order to prevent contracting the flu which could leave people more susceptible to additional Coronavirus infection and serious illness. A flu shot not only protects the individual, but it protects others by limiting the chances of flu virus contraction and spread.
For children older than six months and adults, the flu shot can prevent them from getting sick, prevent flu-related hospitalizations and potentially lessen symptoms or length of illness should they get a strain of the flu. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone six months of age and older, including the elderly and pregnant women, receive an annual flu shot. Flu shots taken by pregnant women can protect their babies from the flu after birth.
Most insurance companies cover the cost of a flu shot, but patients may want to check with their insurance provider if they are unsure.
Together, we can protect ourselves and each other against the flu by getting a flu shot today. To learn more, visit Adena.org/flushot.
