Adena Downs Westfall For Volleyball Regional Title

The Adena Warriors needed every weapon in their arsenal in order to overtake SVC rival Westfall (25-19, 25-19, 25-20) for the Division 3 Regional Volleyball Championship at Logan High School.

The win sends the Warriors to the State Semis at Wright State University Nutter Center, Friday at 2pm vs Independence. Adena improves to (25-2) while Westfall ends their season at (22-5), falling to the Warriors for a third time this season.

The match was close in each set, seeing Adena down 19-18 in Set #1, before closing on a 7-0 run for a 25-19 win.

Set #2 was even at 14-14, then saw Adena close on an 11-5 run for another 25-19 win and a (2-0) match lead.

In Set #3, Westfall led as late as 17-16, with both teams trading punches through Adena’s 20-19 lead, when the Warriors saw Jenna Martin come up with big blocks and kills down the stretch, including the match winner at 25-20, following a Hope Garrison dig of a Marissa Mullins rocket shot that made the final attack possible.

Jenna Martin led Adena with 12 kills, 1 solo block and 2 assisted blocks. Ellie Harper had 10 kills. Sydney Foglesong 9 kills, 1 solo and 1 assisted block. Hannah Burns 7 kills, Makenna Lovely 6 kills and 9 digs. Makaela Lovely 4 kills and 13 assists. Hope Garrison 18 assists and 13 digs. Camryn Carroll had 16 digs.

This will be Adena Volleyball’s 10th trip to the State Final Four (1975, 1976, 1982, 1993, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2014, 2021) The Warriors won state titles in 1975 and 1976, were runner-up in 1993 and 2009. Coach Laura Smith is taking her 7th team to the state tournament.

In Division 4 at Bloom Carroll High School, South Webster swept Newark Catholic to head to the Final Four (25-15, 25-22, 25-13). Adena handed South Webster their only loss this season.

State Route 220 in Pike County Closed Until December

(Chillicothe) – State Route 220 in Pike County will be closed until further notice between U.S. 23 and North Street inside the village of Waverly due to potential hazardous debris from a structure.

The road will remain closed until the structure can be demolished, tentatively scheduled for mid-December. During this closure, traffic will be detoured via local routes.
