Miami Trace Wins FAC Girls Golf Title

The Miami Trace Lady Panthers won the FAC Girls Golf Championship Monday, winning the final league match by two strokes over Chillicothe, who was tied with Miami Trace heading into the season’s final match.

Miami Trace finished with an FAC record of (33-2) with Chillicothe at (30-5). Libby Aleshire of Miami Trace was named FAC Girls Golfer of the Year.

The match medalist for the final match was Chillicothe’s Isabella Fischer with an 87.

Jackson Wins OT Thriller Over Wheelersburg

The (3-2) Jackson Ironmen showed great determination in the second half as they overcame a Wheelersburg rally and leaned on their back-up quarterback in a 21-20 overtime victory over the (2-3) Wheelersburg Pirates, Friday in Jackson in our Litter Media Game of the Week.

Jackson scored first thanks to a scoop and score TD fumble return by Drew Bragg at 9:41 of the first quarter, followed by the PAT kick from Ethan Crabtree for a 7-0 lead.

Wheelersburg capitalized on a fumble recovery of their own, then later saw Ethan Glover score on a 3 yard run at 2:35 of the first quarter. The PAT kick was good, tying the game at 7-7.

The Ironmen grabbed the lead back at 2:33 of the second quarter, when starting quarterback Evan Spires connected with Eli Broermann on a 17 yard TD strike. The PAT kick gave Jackson a 14-7 advantage, which they would take into the locker room at halftime.

After Jackson’s Evan Spires left the game with an injury, Jacob Winters came on in relief to lead the Ironmen’s offense the rest of the game.

With Jackson leading, the Pirates’ Eli Sword provided a key interception deep on Jackson’s side of the field with less than 20 seconds to play in the third quarter. That led to an Ethan Glover TD run from one yard out with five seconds left in the third period. The PAT kick evened the score at 14-14 headed to the fourth quarter.

That’s the way the score remained until late in regulation play, as the Pirates had a couple of possessions that took the ball into Ironmen territory. With 4:13 left in the fourth quarter, the Pirates had the ball at the Jackson 35, but lost the ball on a fumble. Jackson was unable to get anything going and punted to Wheelersburg’s 33 yard line with :38 remaining.

The Pirates crossed midfield and attempted a 51 yard field goal that could have won the game. Braxton Sammons’ gave it a gallant try, but his field goal attempt bounced off the crossbar sending the game to overtime at 14-14.

Wheelersburg won the coin-toss and elected to give Jackson the first possession with the ball. The Ironmen’s Jacob Winters found Cade Wolford on a 12 yard TD pass and their PAT kick made it 21-14 Jackson.

Wheelersburg took their OT possession and also scored on a two yard run making it 21-20. Electing to go for the win, the Pirates went for two points on the PAT try, but Jackson’s defense held on a running play, sealing the home victory 21-20.

Jackson QB Jacob Winters was named McDonald’s Player of the Game.

Match #5 Rainout Leads To SVC Golf 3 Day Race To Finish Line

A September 15th rainout of SVC Golf Match #5 at Big Beaver Golf Course has forced the conference to reschedule it where the final 36 holes will be played over four matches in three consecutive days.

SVC Match #5 at Big Beaver is rescheduled for Tuesday, September 21 at 4:30pm.

SVC #6 & #7 is at Pickaway Country Club on Wednesday, September 22 at 1:30pm start with the front 9 holes being played as Match #6, then after a break, start on the back 9 holes as Match #7.

SVC Match #8 will be at The Chillicothe Jaycees on Thursday, September 23 at 4:30pm.

Heading into Match #5, Unioto and Piketon share the SVC lead with 30 points, Zane Trace 24, Westfall 18, Adena 16, Southeastern 14, Paint Valley 7 and Huntington with 2 points.

FAC Golf Nears Season End/Burg Still Controls SOC

The 4th FAC girls golf match was held on Tuesday evening at The Greens in Washington Courthouse.

Chillicothe came in with the low score of 196. They were followed by Miami Trace with a 206, McClain with a 238, Jackson 250, Hillsboro 251, and Washington with a 266.

Match Co-Medalist honors went to Miami Trace’ Libby Aleshire and Chillicothe’s Isabella Fisher who both fired a 40.

With one more league match and the league tournament left to play the standings are as follows: Miami Trace (18-2), Chillicothe (18-2), McClain (11-9), Jackson (8-12), Hillsboro (3-17), Washington (2-18).

Miami Trace Wins Monday FAC Girls Golf Match

Miami Trace won the FAC Girls Golf Match at Hillsboro Elks on Monday evening as they carded a 198.

Chillicothe finished 2nd with a 218, McClain recorded a 233, Hillsboro came in with a 240, and Jackson rounded out the evening with a 264. Washington was unable to field a complete team.

Sharing match medalist honors were Miami Trace senior duo of Libby Aleshire and Alyssa Butler as they each fired a 47.

Piketon Stays Unbeaten With 28-24 Win Over Zane Trace

The Piketon Redstreaks are off to one of their best football starts in years, opening the SVC season with a 28-24 win over Zane Trace, Friday. The win elevates the Redstreaks record to (1-0/4-0), while Zane Trace drops to (0-1/2-2).

The Pioneers darted out to a 14-0 lead, holding the Redstreaks scoreless until late in the first quarter. Piketon was averaging 43 points per game, coming into the contest.

Zane Trace’s Blake Phillips put the Pioneers on the scoreboard first, capping a 72 yard drive, when he took the ball into the end-zone on 1 yard run. Noah Fetters PAT kick made it 7-0 ZT at 5:48 left in first quarter.

The Pioneers didn’t take long to up their lead to 14-0 as they got the ball back on a Piketon fumble on the ensuing kick-off. Ben Nichols then connected on a 19 yard TD pass to Daniel Barnhart followed by Fetters PAT kick with 4:20 left first half.

The Redstreaks finally got on the board at 1:19 left in the first quarter as quarterback Levi Gullion found John Burton on a 17 yard TD pass over the middle to cap a 72 yard scoring drive. The PAT 2-point try failed, leaving ZT with a 14-6 lead.

Piketon drives back down the field, getting a big pass play to Kydan Potts to keep the drive alive. The Streaks then cut the margin to 14-12 at 9:14 left in the second quarter when with Jayden Thacker scored from 2 yards out. Again, Piketon’s 2 point PAT failed, leaving Zane Trace with a 14-12 advantage after their 80 yard scoring drive.

The Redstreaks grabbed their first lead in the game, driving 91 yards for a score, capped off by Levi Gullion’s 7 yard TD run with 4:01 left first half. Gullion’s 2 point run gave a 20-14 Piketon lead.

The Pioneers came right back down the field, but their drive stalled and they settled for a Noah Fetters 30 yard field goal as time expired to pull ZT to within 20-17 at halftime.

Zane Trace drew first blood in the second half, gaining a short field as the result of a Jagger Stauffer interception off a deflected pass. Daniel Barnhart got the ball to the one yard line, appearing to score, but officials said his knee went down prior to the ball crossing the goal line. Barnhart on the next play scored on 1 yard run to cap a 24 yard drive followed by Fetters PAT kick for a Pioneers 24-20 lead with 6:11 left in third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Zane Trace had the ball approaching midfield, but their drive stalled. On fourth down and seven, Piketon’s Zane Brownfield intercepted a pass at midfield, giving the Redstreaks the ball and a chance to regain the lead.

A big Levi Gullion pass took the ball into the red-zone into ZT territory and Levi Gullion scored on an 8 yard run with 9:57 left in game. Gullion then ran the ball into the end-zone for the two point conversion- putting Piketon up 28-24 lead.

With Zane Trace getting one more chance with the ball, Piketon’s Camren Loar intercepted Ben Nichols pass to end game.

Piketon’s 28-24 win over Zane Trace has the Redstreaks at (1-0/4-0) on season. Zane Trace falls to (0-1/2-2).

For the second year in a row, the Zane Trace Pioneers have won a heated volleyball battle at Adena. Only this time, it was between two unbeaten teams coming into Thursday’s match. The (4-0/7-0) Pioneers won against SVC rival (3-1/7-1) Adena by scores of (17-25, 14-25, 27-25, 28-26, 15-13)

The Warriors won the first two sets rather convincingly at 25-17 and 25-14, but the Pioneers came fighting back to take the next three sets by scores of 27-25, 28-26 and 15-13 to win the match. The Piketon Redstreaks are even in the SVC Golf Standings after shooting a 160 to best Unioto by 8 strokes, creating a first place tie of 30 points with four rounds left in the season.
