Logan Elm’s Late Season Magic Continues With District Semi Upset of Unioto

Article Presented By Rathkamp Financial…

The (12-13) Logan Elm Braves added another upset notch to their belt Saturday with a 58-57 thriller over (18-6) Unioto in the Division 2 Boys Sectional Championship at Miami Trace High School.

The Braves stunned the Shermans as they darted out to a 14-6 lead after the first quarter and built a 20-6 advantage at 6:58 of the second period. Unioto closed to within 27-18 before the Braves took a 29-18 lead into halftime.

Logan Elm held a 31-20 margin lead early in the third period, which led to Unioto applying an intense full-court pressure the rest of the game. Unioto cut the deficit to 45-40 after three quarters and grabbed a rare lead at 48-47. The Shermans held a 56-53 lead with 1:02 remaining in the contest, and later 57-54, before the Braves closed on a 4-0 finish- capped off by a go-ahead bucket by Braves junior Nemiah Waugh with one second to play for a 58-57 lead. Unioto had one last gasp following a time out, but their desperation 75 foot shot at the buzzer missed as Logan Elm wins 58-57.

The Braves in the last few weeks have upset MSL co-champ Teays Valley, #3 tournament seed Washington, and now SVC Champ Unioto.

Waugh led all players with 26 points, with teammate Tyler Speas adding 16. Both were named Litter Media Radio’s “McDonald’s Players of the Game.” Brody Sabine added 6 points, Carson Summers 5, Camden Redd 3 points and 10 rebounds, and Keagan Diehl 2 points.

Unioto’s KB Perkins dominated the inside for a big portion of the game, ending with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Blake Fitch added 10 points, both Caden Cutright and Newt Hoops scored 7 points, Blake Hoops 5 points, Ashton Crace 4, aand Jordan Perkins 2 points.

Logan Elm shot a robust 55% from the field on 18/33- including 8/14 from the arc, while adding 14/22 at the charity stripe. Unioto was 20/42- including 4/13 from the arc for 48%. The Tanks added 13/17 at the foul line.

Logan Elm advances to the 8pm March 4th District Semi vs Warren at the OU Convocation Center.
