Federal Hocking Closes Door on Adena Lady Warriors Season

Adena’s stellar (21-3) girls basketball season came to a close Saturday, falling to the (17-7) Federal Hocking Lady Lancers 48-36 in the Division 3 District Semi at Waverly’s Downtown Gym. Federal Hocking’s quickness proved to be a big difference in the victory, as the Lady Lancers advance to the March 2nd finals against SOC Champ Portsmouth West.
Fed Hock led 7-5 after one quarter and 17-16 at halftime. Adena held a 30-27 lead late in the third quarter, before the period closed at 30-30. But the final quarter was owned by the Lady Lancers as they shot 67% in that frame and outscored the Lady Warriors 18-6 for the 48-36 win.
5’1 freshman Brenlee Cottrill scored 23 points to lead Federal Hocking, with 14 coming from Makayla Nelson and 8 from Takira Walker. Adena was by freshman Marly Halcomb’s 13 points and senior Emma Garrison added 11.
Federal Hocking shot 14/30 from the field- including 4/13 from the arc for 47%. They added 16/27 at the charity stripe, while Adena was ice-cold at 11/39- including 1/11 from the arc for only 28%. The Lady Warriors were 13/21 at the foul line.
