Circleville Lady Tigers Soar Past Athens with District Semi Win

Circleville’s Lady Tigers played a well-rounded game on offense and defense for a 50-35 Division 2 District Semifinal win over Athens Saturday, remaining unbeaten at (24-0).
Circleville blanked the Lady Bulldogs in the first quarter for a 7-0 start and led 10-0 before Athens scored at 6:47 left in the second period.
Athens shaved the deficit to 18-10 at halftime and got to within 20-15, before the Lady Tigers 6-0 run put them up 26-15. Circleville grabbed a 31-19 advantage after three quarters and led by as many as 19, before settling for the 50-35 victory to set up their district title game with unbeaten Sheridan February 28th at Southeastern High School.
Circleville was led by maddle Blakeman’s 19 points and 8 rebounds, with Faith Yancey adding 13 and Gabby McConnell’s 10 points abd 6 rebounds. Blakeman and McConnel were named the Litter Media Radio’s “McDonald’s Players of the Game.” Ally Thornsley and Isabelle Perini added 5 and 3 points, respectively.
Athens was propelled by Brystol Stump’s 12 points.
The Lady Tigers shot 55% from the field on 18/33- including 5/12 from the arc, while adding 9/12 at the foul line. Athens was 12/37 for 32%- including 4/20 from the arc. They were 7/10 at the foul line. Circleville won the rebounding battle 20-16, forcing 18 Athens turnovers while the Lady Tigers had 15.
