The Southeastern Panthers sent shock waves through the SVC Volleyball standings Tuesday with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 9-25, 25-20) upset at #3 state ranked Adena. The loss was Adena’s first conference defeat of the season as they drop to (8-1/14-2) while the much-improved Panthers go to (3-6/8-6).

Southeastern controlled most of the match in almost every category. The Panthers used tough serving, tremendous defense and a strong net attack to propel their effort.

The Panthers built a 21-14 lead in Set #1, with Adena rallying late, before falling 25-20.

Set #2 saw Southeastern get a 5-0 and 10-4 start. That lead increased to 17-7 and 21-12 with the Warriors getting to within 22-18. The Panthers closed on a 3-1 run for a 25-19 win and a commanding (2-0) match lead.

Needing a win to stay alive, Adena took off for an 8-3 and never looked back in a 25-9 win, making it (2-1) Southeastern.

Set #4 was close early, but Adena took an 11-7 lead. The Panthers proceeded to go on an 8-3 run for a 15-14 advantage, only to see the Warriors even the score at 15-15. From there, Southeastern went into steam-roller mode on a 5-0 run for a 20-15 lead. Adena shaved that deficit to 20-19, but Southeastern answered with a 5-1 finish for the 25-20 match winning decision.
