Circleville Council OK’s D.O.R.A.

Circleville City Council has approved an ordinance that creates a Downtown Outdoor Refreshment Area, better known as a DORA. 

The DORA permits individuals to carry alcoholic beverages inside an area designated by the city, if that purchase was made inside bars or restaurants within the DORA. 

The DORA legislation for Circleville’s downtown, includes businesses on Court Street, Main Street, Watt Street, Franklin Street, Scioto Street and Pickaway Street.

The DORA will be in place each Thursday, Friday and Saturday, except the week of the Circleville Pumpkin Show. 

Circleville City Council President David Crawford told Litter Media‘s Mike Smith in a phone conversation- “We brought in DORA in hopes that it will help downtown businesses get more customers.”

A few modifications were made into the final legislation that adjusted the hours to begin earlier in the evening when most of the downtown stores are already open. Crawford added- “There is always the chance that some of the businesses will consider staying open later, if more shoppers are visiting the downtown.”

The hours are from 5pm to 10pm on Thursdays and Fridays, and noon to 10pm on Saturdays.

Circleville Considers Adding DORA Ordinance

The Circleville City Council Judicial Committee has set into motion legislation which could lead to a Downtown Outdoor Refreshment Area, also known as DORA.

The next step has the city law director writing legislation that will go to the full city council for their vote.

A DORA allows people to carry alcoholic beverages inside of a designated area that are purchased inside restaurants or taverns.

The proposal is for Circleville’s downtown area, including businesses on Court Street, Main Street, Watt Street, Franklin Street, Pickaway Street and Scioto Street.

It was decided to have the DORA in place each Thursday through Saturday, with the exception of the week of the Circleville Pumpkin Show. That the event would be from 5pm-10pm on Thursdays and Fridays and noon to 10pm on Saturdays.
