Whaley Names Lt. Governor Running Mate

Cheryl Stephens

*UPDATED*
(Columbus)- Democratic gubernatorial candidate Nan Whaley has announced her choice for Lieutenant Governor: Cuyahoga County Councilmember and CEO of the East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation Cheryl Stephens. Nan unveiled her pick across from the Statehouse in Columbus.

The campaign says “Cheryl is joining Nan as her Lieutenant Governor candidate because they both know our state is fundamentally broken and Ohioans deserve better. The same special interests and corrupt politicians have been in charge for 30 years as our state has fallen further behind. The only answer is a total overhaul.”

“Nan and Cheryl believe we can build a better Ohio. An Ohio where one job is enough to provide for your family. An Ohio where your kids have real opportunities. An Ohio where everyone — no matter your zip code — can thrive.”

“I’m thrilled to announce that Cheryl Stephens has joined our ticket as a candidate for Lieutenant Governor. I’ve known Cheryl for years, since we both served as mayors of our cities, and she’s exactly the type of leader we don’t have enough of in this state. Cheryl and I come from different communities in different parts of the state, but we both know this: Ohio deserves better. We deserve a state that works for us. A state government that wants your pay to go up, your bills to go down, and your government to work for you. Whether it’s increasing access to home ownership or growing small businesses, Cheryl has the experience and grit to get the job done. That’s what a Whaley-Stephens administration will bring to Ohio,” said Nan Whaley.

“Ohio has given me so much opportunity, and every kid and family deserves that same chance. They deserve their shot at the American dream. I’ve spent my career fighting so that everyone has the opportunity to own a home and so that families can build wealth and leave something behind for their kids. Together, Nan and I will help build that dream for all Ohioans. I’m honored to join my fellow former mayor on this ticket because I know what Ohio is capable of when we come together and demand change,” said Cheryl Stephens.

Whaley Makes Southern Ohio Campaign Stops

(Dayton) — Nan Whaley continues her tour across southern Ohio Monday (9/27/21), holding meet and greets and taking part in community events as part of her 88 County Ohio Deserves Better Tour. Nan will be visiting the following counties: Harrison, Belmont, Monroe, Athens, Meigs, Gallia, Lawrence, Scioto, Pike, Adams, Brown.

Earlier this year, Nan announced her intention to visit all of Ohio’s 88 counties in order to listen to voters’ concerns and discuss how, together, we can build a brighter future for our state. For too long, Ohioans have felt left behind — whether in cities big or small. Nan will travel the state to hear directly from them and actually bring the voices of real Ohioans to the Governor’s Office.
