The City of Chillicothe has set their date for 2021 Beggars’ Night.
Mayor Luke Feeney told Chillicothe City Council during their recent meeting that the event will take place from 6pm-7:30pm on Thursday, October 28th with a rain-date of 2pm-3:30pm on Saturday, October 30th.
Ross County Sheriff George Lavender informed Litter Media’s Mike Smith that in recent years, townships and villages have gone with this same date to stay uniform with Chillicothe. Others say this limits confusion as to when Trick or Treat is held in the area it maintains safety for youngsters with area law enforcement concentrating patrols on the same night.
We are all being encouraged to Light the Night Red for Fallen Firefighters.
In conjunction with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, please join first responders by lighting the outside of your residence red, in remembrance of all those who have sacrificed everything in the line of duty.
The annual observance takes place between September 26th – October 3rd,
(Athens) – Ohio University has launched a new, mandatory online hazing prevention training, which will be delivered via email to all OHIO students, faculty and staff the week of Sept. 27.
“Ohio University does not tolerate hazing,” President Hugh Sherman said. “This required training will provide critical information and resources to help our community understand that every member of our University community is responsible for the prevention of hazing.”
The hazing prevention training provides detailed information about hazing, why it is illegal, and what OHIO University students, faculty, and staff can do to stop hazing from occurring on our campuses.
Users are required to complete quizzes to move on within each of the training modules and complete the training.

The League of Women Voters of Chillicothe-Ross has cancelled their scheduled Candidates’ Night event scheduled for Tuesday, September 28th, due to insufficient candidate participation.
The following is a press release from the League’s website:
We understand that this is a disappointment. However, as a non-partisan, voter education organization with specific, nationally mandated rules governing our public forums, we unfortunately could not proceed with the event as none of the contested races would have been represented by candidates from both parties.
In regards to rumors about a partisan boycott, we want to make clear that we have absolutely no evidence this was the case. Furthermore, we would greatly like such speculation to cease, as it is wholly unproductive to civil discourse and voter engagement.
While we are very disappointed to not be hosting our annual forum, we encourage voters to instead attend the upcoming Meet the Candidates Night hosted by the local NAACP on Tuesday, October 26th at 7pm.
Additionally, our local League is utilizing the national Vote411.org online voter guide for this year’s city races. So all of the candidates who were invited to attend our live event, will also be invited to provide information and answer questions for voters to then read anytime at vote411.org . Invitations to participate in Vote411 will be sent to candidates soon, and it is our sincere hope that all candidates will take the opportunity to speak directly to voters using this convenient online format.
Please stay tuned to the League for more information about both the NAACP Forum and our Vote411 online voter guide.
