A scoreless game tilted in the Bloom Carroll column with a six-run fourth inning, as the Bulldogs went on to a 9-0 win over Hillsboro in the Division 2 Regional Baseball Championship at Teays Valley High School, Saturday.

The Bulldogs blew the game open in the fourth inning on a walk followed by a Joel Winters single, which put Bloom Carroll runners on 1st and 2nd. Beau Wisegarver singled with a line shot off the pitchers mound that went into centerfield, giving Bloom Carroll a 1-0 lead.

C.J. Carmichael’s two-run double to made it 3-0. An infielder error at first, allowed two BC runners to score making it 5-0.

Ryan Scott’s day on the mound was done after going 3.2 innings. Brad Miller came on in relief for the Indians, but the Bulldogs were not finished. A ground-out fielders choice scored another run. Bloom Carroll scored 6 runs in the fourth inning with three hits and one Hillsboro error. Bulldogs lead Hillsboro 6-0 after four innings.

BC added three more in the fifth inning with a hit batsmen and a walk, followed by a passed ball that put runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out for the Bulldogs. Beau Wisecarver hit into a fielders choice that scored BC’s 7th run. Zach Humphries relieved Miller on the mound with runners on the corners and one out in bottom of fifth.

A Hillsboro error on a pickoff throw to 1st base, made it 8-0. Another BC batter was hit by pitch. (3 hit batsmen in the inning) then a single scored a runner from third for 9-0 lead.

Hillsboro concludes season at (24-7) and regional runner-up. Bloom Carroll improves to (27-5) and headed to State Final 4 in Akron.

In other baseball regional finals, Lucasville Valley wins the D-4 crown with a 5-2 win over Berlin Hiland at Lancaster, while earlier in the day, Minford fell to Barnesville 10-7 in the D-3 title game, thanks to a six-run fourth inning for Barnesville.

In State Softball Semifinal action, Wheelersburg lost to Sherwood Fairview, 10-8.

Ohio COVID-19 Cases Dip Below 50 Per 100,000

Presented By Classic Brands

(COLUMBUS)—Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today announced that the Ohio Department of Health is reporting the two-week statewide average of cases per 100,000 residents is 49.5. These cases occured with onset dates in a two-week period from May 22 to June 4, 2021.

“Ohioans have shown our resilience and grit, and by continuing to get vaccinated we are coming through this pandemic stronger than ever,” said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. “When I announced this goal on March 4th, I said that reaching 50 cases per 100,000 would mean we were entering a new phase of this pandemic. Vaccinations are working. That’s why cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are down. But that doesn’t mean we can let our foot off the gas. If you’re not vaccinated against COVID-19, continue to wear a mask in public and Ohioans that are able to get vaccinated should.”

As of today, more than 5.3 million Ohioans have started the vaccination process, making up 45.9% of all Ohioans and 40.5% of Ohio adults, and 4.7 million are fully vaccinated.

Case rates per 100,000 residents have been monitored throughout the pandemic and were as high as more than 900 cases per 100,000 residents in data from December 14, 2020. Specifically, 939.1 cases per 100,000 were reported for the period of November 30 through December 13, 2020. Prior to today, the last time Ohio fell below 50 cases per 100,000 residents was on June 25, 2020, when 49.7 cases per 100,000 were reported for the period of June 11 through 24, 2020.

Case rates per 100,000 residents are calculated as an average over a 14-day period, and exclude cases among incarcerated individuals. The data is calculated based on illness onset date, not report date. Each day, when new cases are added to the COVID-19 dashboards, they are attributed to the date of illness onset.

Although this is a positive indicator in the fight against COVID-19, the threat of the virus remains. Individuals should continue taking proper preventative measures including washing, and sanitizing hands and surfaces frequently. While masking is no longer mandated, unvaccinated Ohioans should continue wearing masks indoors or in crowded settings where social distancing is not possible. Businesses and organizations can continue to require masking regardless of an individual’s vaccination status, including in healthcare settings.

Battle On The Blacktop Postponed

Presented By Rathkamp Financial

The Annual 3-On-3 “Battle On The Blacktop” in Chillicothe, will be postponed from it’s scheduled June 18th-20th play dates.

Organizer Jemar Harris told Litter Media’s Mike Smith that with the COVID-19 pandemic health orders just recently being lifted on June 2nd, it left them with too little time to gather enough volunteers and teams, along with many of them also planning summer vacations.

Harris is hopeful the annual outdoors basketball tournament can be rescheduled later this year.

The tournament is designed to bring unity, fellowship and fun competition to the community.
